Married to Jennifer for over 30 years, raising 3 children in public schools, while working in and enjoying the great state of California to its fullest is a great reason to give back to the people that make it happen.
Parents Trust Me to Get Things Done
I was a member of the Hollister School District board 2016-2020. Upon winning my seat, parents came to me about particulary disturbing things that were happening. I asked the district to investigate, my fellow board members came along, and we took the appropriate actions to resolve what was going on. Previous boards and administrations had nothing about the situation, even though there were stacks of complaints. That's who I am: if children are at risk, I am not going to tolerate it.
Using my financial and leadership experience, I noted that inspiteof all the new rooftops going up for years in Hollister, the District's developer fee account was not increasing - for years! As it turned out, the County of San Benito was not turning over the impact fees that developers paid and were due to be paid to the Hollister School District, but never were. My fellow board members agreed and we ended up suing the County of San Benito before settling with them out of court.
Similarly, I noticed that the County Office of Education was not posting funds collected by the San Benito County Tax Collector and San Benito County Auditor. Investigating this caused all the school districts in San Benito County to receive millions of dollars that they were due but had never received.
These things are important in knowing who I am. In addition to expertise that lends itself to a better-run district, I enjoy working out difficult situations.
